How to care for your rash guard and BJJ spats

Jiu Jitsu rash guards and spats can be expensive.  Here are some tips on how to care for them.

Rash guards and spats are typically made of a synthetic blend with a percentage of that being spandex.

1. WASH IN COLD WATER

2. HANG DRY

That is really all it takes to extend the life your grappling rash guard and spats

BONUS TIPS!!!

Pre-treat/spray detergent on to the arm pit area of your rash guard.  This will help remove any odors

The #1 reason to keep your rash guard out of the dryer..... if you get body odor embedded in your rash guard and it does NOT come out in the wash.  When you put the rash guard in the dryer, it "sets" the odor into the fabric.  Then it is very difficult to get the funky odor out.   Then no one wants to roll with you - because your gear smells.   Then you will be sad.

Another benefit of keeping your rash guard / spats out of the dryer - you will keep those annoying fuzzy things that love to stick to rash guards / spats.

FINAL BONUS TIP!!!

If you have a loose thread on your gear - CUT IT WITH A SCISSOR.   Do not pull it.  Do not pull it.

Cageside & Toro BJJ Fighter Shirt Program

Cageside Fight Company along with Toro BJJ have recently started a "Fighter Shirt Program"

The program helps MMA and Jiu Jitsu fighters raise funds.  We can design and pre-sell "Signature" shirts.

The shirt retails for $26 on our website:  www.cageside.com    Each shirt that we sell, the fighter gets $9.   When the pre-sale ends we print the shirts (in-house) and mail them to everyone who ordered one.  Then we mail a check to the fighter.  We recently did this for Mike Pagano.   We wrote Mike a check for just over $600. Mike simply promoted the shirt on Facebook and Instagram,  There was ZERO out of pocket cost to Mike.

The shirts are all soft, poly/cotton blends - with 1 color front and 1 color back.  There is no out of pocket cost to the fighter.  This is a great way to raise money to help with training camps or to help with plane tickets to out of state tournaments.

If you sell a minimum of 20 shirts, you will receive 3 free shirts.  If you sell 50 shirts, you will receive 5 free shirts.

Interested fighters should email us at Cageside@gmail.com  - put FIGHTER SHIRT in the subject line.  Please give me an idea of what you'd like on the shirts.  If you have any sponsors - please send them to me as well.  You can just list them or send an image.  Let me know if you have a particular fight or event that you are trying to raise money for so we can plan accordingly

Preferred shirt/color combos
Black shirts with light gray ink
White shirts with any color
Light gray shirts with a darker color ink
Green shirts with black ink

Cageside has been in business since 2006 and has a solid reputation.

Thanks!
Boomer

Bout 1: Georges Kopa (RIMA) def John Prim (Forged Fitness) via unanimous referee decision.  3 rounds of non-stop action.  Both fighters looked very sharp and were in excellent physical shape.

Bout 11:  Doug Coltrane def Harold Hubbard via unanimous 5 round decision.  Both fighters wanted the win badly but Coltrane was able to control a majority of the striking to pull off the win.

Bout 12: Lawshawn Alcocks def Marcus Brown via KO.  Alcocks once again displayed his striking power.

Bout 13: D'Juan Owens def Trey Singleton via unanimous 5 round decision.   This fight was awesome.  Neither fighter showed any signs of quitting.  Owens proved to be a bit too much for Singleton, winning every hard fought round.

Meatballs and Sauce Recipe

Start with your sauce.

Making homemade Italian Sauce is super easy and delicious.

Ingredients:
6-7 garlic cloves, chopped
1 can organic tomato paste
1  15oz can organic tomato sauce
3  28oz cans of organic whole peeled tomatoes
3oz of olive oil
salt
pepper
ground oregano
ground parsley

In large pot put in the olive oil and garlic - simmer (very low heat) until the garlic begins to get golden brown (2-4 minutes)
Add the tomato paste.  continue to simmer for 2 minutes
Add the tomato sauce
Stir while continuing to simmer
Open the cans of peeled tomatoes 1 at a time pour into a medium sized bowl.  Squish the tomatoes by hand until they have a semi smooth consistency and add to the pot

Continue to cook at a simmer, stirring occasionally.  Add seasonings to your liking - go easy on the salt until you get it just right.  You can't add too much oregano

Cook for 90 minutes to 2 hours

MEATBALLS

While your sauce is simmering - it's meatball time!

Ingredients:
1lb ground veal
3/4lb ground pork
1/2lb ground beef
1 egg
4oz grated Parmesan cheese
3-4 minced garlic cloves
oregano
salt
pepper

mix all ingredients in a large bowl by hand - make sure you mix well

in a large pan begin heating up olive oil on medium heat - enough oil to cook the meatballs - maybe 1/4 to 1/3 of an inch deep

form your meatballs by hand and add to the pan (don't overcrowd the pan)  cook on medium heat - move your meatballs - browning on all sides.   As the meatballs are cooked - add them to your sauce.

Instead of pasta - use zucchini.   I slice zucchini on a mandolin slicer and quickly cook it in a pan with olive oil.

You can also use spaghetti squash - Google it

About TORO CUP
The very first TORO Cup was held on February 28, 2015 and raised over $2500 for The George Pendergrass Foundation for Leukemia Research. Jeff Shaw had the idea of creating the Toro Cup:   A day of Jiu Jitsu Super Fights.   Jeff, Boomer (Owner of Toro BJJ) and Seth Shamp (Royce Gracie Black Belt) came up with rules that would ensure EVERY match would have a winner.   They were tired of "Meta-snore-as" and their boring matches that all seemed to end in a draw.   To date - the Toro Cup has never had a draw and has raised over $7000 for various charities.

Is BACK PAIN keeping you away from Jiu Jitsu?

Back Pain.  Many of us experience it.  For some back pain is a chronic problem.

I suffered my first back spasm in 7th grade.  It was horrible.

From age 13 until I was 37 - I had varying degrees of constant back pain.  My lower back always hurt.  I could not find anything to relieve the constant ache.  Most days the pain was around a "2".

From age 24 until age 37, I could count on twice yearly having my back "go out".  This would have me in so much pain and make life miserable.

For some reason my back would almost always seem to "go out" at the worst times...family visiting, vacation, important deadlines.

I tried everything: massage therapy, chiropractors, physical therapy, yoga, stretching, posture control, exercises specifically for my back.  I visited an orthopedic surgeon.  X-Rays revealed that I had "Degenerative Disc Disease"  The horror!  Holy crap, right?  He told me the only option was surgery.

Luckily I never listened to this quack.

I continued to be uncomfortable and suffer for a few more years.  About 4 years ago, we were on a weekend beach vacation.  My back locked up on me.  Laying on the floor of the hotel - I was miserable, mentally and physically.  I could not take this crap any longer.

Not long after, I found out about a book.  THE book for people with back pain.

The name of this book is "Healing Back Pain" by Dr. John Sarno.

This book changed my life!!!  I have told MANY people about Dr. Sarno's amazing book.  You can purchase this book on Amazon for around $7

The best part of this book - NO exercises, NO gimmicks, NO tricks, NO restrictions and NO surgery.  All you have to do is read the book.

If you suffer from back or neck pain - give the book a shot.
